Bryan has been a strong contributing member of the coaching community in Grande Prairie for 15+ years.  In 2021 he coached the St. Joe Celtics to their 7th consecutive MPFL Peace Bowl and ASAA tier 2 Provincial Championships with an undefeated season. Bryan spends upwards of 4 hours daily coaching high school football and supporting the coaches throughout the community of Grande Prairie at various levels of the sport including a Peewee Skill Development Camp in June.

Casey Moskalyk - Football

Casey devotes much of his time to coaching local youth and having a positive influence on so many children's lives.  In the winter months Casey can be found at the hockey rink coaching for Sexsmith Minor Hockey and during the spring laughing, joking, and doing acrobats while coaching the Sexsmith pee wee football team, during the fall he is the offensive coordinator for the bantam team. Casey sees the potential in his athletes, regardless of size and pushes them to be better both on and off the field/ice. He is always respectful and in turn expects the same from the players.

Cheryl Jobson - Figure Skating

Cheryl is a dedicated coach and mentor for the Grande Prairie Skating Club and has helped them navigate the challenges presented over the past couple of years while being committed to helping them develop their skills.  In addition, she spent the time to further her coaching skills and knowledge and is a National Trained Coach NCCP Level 3, Certified Provincial Coach and she coached competitive skaters from pre-juvenile through novice levels as well as all levels of STARSkate from STAR 1 through Gold.

Daniel Hadley - Alpine Skiing

Dan provides ski programs of exceptional quality.  With a current focus on the development of small, high caliber clubs, he fosters the growth & future of the ski community by offering Level 1 coaching along with official training and bi-weekly alpine ski camps. In 2021 Dan hosted the Edge-to-Edge Club Slalom Ski Race for all club athletes, provided 2 parent training nights and ran 6 weekends of Jasper training camps for ages 4-18, he also offered 16 weeks or 64 hours of Nancy Greene training & 80 hours of competitive training at Nitehawk

Mike Brown - Hockey

Coach Mike Brown has been a coach for nearly 7 years. He began his coaching career as an injured player and found a different love for the game behind the bench coaching as an Assistant Coach in Calgary for the AAA Bantam team. He has coached for the GPAC organization for 5+ years. Mike has coached both male and female teams throughout his coaching career and has taken courses both on and off season to better his players. He is a Development 1 Coaching certificate holder with Hockey Alberta and has used these skills to help his fellow coaches as well.

Wanting to contribute to the team and the sport, Tristan Thompson was the assistant coach for the U18A Stampeders for the 2020/2021 season as he aged out and was no longer eligible to play.  Currently attending Glenmary High School in Peace River, Tristan plays competitively in other school sports.

Troy Sandboe - Basketball

Troy Sandboe has been coach of the Composite High School Basketball team for 30 years. He has dedicated 1000s of hours and over half his life to providing players the opportunity to learn and play basketball at a high level. He is a transformative coach that values hard work, integrity, and dedication.  Troy’s passion and commitment to the game of basketball, his players and community is unsurpassed.  He has developed over 40 athletes for post-secondary, and he remains a good friend and mentor to many of his athletes.  Every season without fail he volunteers his time to also host his Alumni players for an annual tournament.  He was a recipient of an ASAA Northwest Zone Award of Merit in 2020 and recognized at the 2018 Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards as a Coach of the Year nominee. His tireless gift of his time and expertise at the High School and College level makes the lives of all those around him better. Coach Troy is currently also helping the younger generation of athletes grow a love for the game as a coach for Swan City Basketball.
Ashley Yu - Ringette

Ashley Yu - Ringette

Ashley grew up playing ringette in LaGlace and has a lot of skill and knowledge to share with the players of Peace County Ringette. Ashley joined Peace Country Ringette as a player and has since volunteered to coach, she started coaching the Active Start program. In this group Ashley has players that are at the very beginning of the sport.  She teaches them basic skating skills as well as the beginning ringette skills. This year Ashley stepped in to cover the head coaching position for the U12 team at the beginning of the season. Her wealth of game knowledge helped her devise and run drills to encompass the skill levels of players aged from 5 to 14.

Kyle Gallmore - Hockey

As a certified coach, Kyle is a role model both on and off the ice. Whether practice or a game, he leads by example and shows the players what it means to be a winner, regardless of the scoreboard. Kyle has a fun side to him which encourages the team to be positive and dance to the music between plays.  Turning his team into a welcoming community, Kyle takes the time to foster personal relationships with the families he coaches for. Because of Kyle, every single player is a better player every time they step off the ice.

Mike Haakstad - Ringette

From ‘I’m just here to pick up the rings’ to assistant coach.  A man of few words and a great sense of humour, Mike joined Peace Country Ringette in 2019 eager to help with his daughter's ringette team. In the following years, Mike has completed his Community in Sports - Ringette and now utilizes this knowledge to help with the coaching of the 20 players now registered with Peace County Ringette.  In practice you will see Mike running drills on his own, giving direction and feed back to players and generally sharing his growing knowledge of the game with all the players.

Shane has coached the sport of football in the community of Grande Prairie for the last 10+ years at every level of the sport. Spending over 6 hours a day during the season enriching the lives of his players and being a positive influence in their lives. During 2021 Shane used every possible opportunity to be accountable to the development of the football athletes in Grande Prairie. 2021 achievements include running a Peewee Developmental Camp, Coaching the Bantam Horner Cup Champions - Grande Prairie Broncos, Football Alberta Tier I 9 Man Provincial Semi-Finalists, MPFL Peace Bowl Champions and  ASAA Provincial Tier II Football Champions

Janine Shillington shows tremendous amounts of passion, commitment and integrity when it comes to both professional and personal aspects of her life. She has created a balance which allows her to strive as an athlete while excelling in her business and maintaining a family life. She always puts all-out effort into the things that are most important to her. Being a 2-time CrossFit Games athlete, including a 2021 Legends Master, she has brought the same passion from her own training into her coaching. She brings the best out in everyone showing them how capable they are of achieving their goals.

Miya is very athletic; on top of her passion for snowboarding, she participates in almost every school sport. She qualified for a spot at Arctic Winter Games with a first place for speed and third for air in try outs and unfortunately was unable to compete due to the games being postponed. Miya is very outgoing and enjoys spreading her passion of the sport through coaching young kids.

Sydney Kinderwater - Judo

Sydney Kinderwater is a member of the Provincial Judo Team.  After her performance in the Quebec open Senior Women’s event in November 2021 where she competed in an age category above her own Sydney was selected to compete in the Elite 8 National Judo Championships and the European Junior Cup in Coimbra. Portugal. She also caught the eye of Judo Canada who invited her to a special training camp in Lethbridge where she trained with 2020 Olympic bronze medalists Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard and Jessica Klimkait

Sebastian Anderson - Sledge Hockey

Sebastian is a sledge hockey player for the Wolverines. Though the team has not been able to compete due to the pandemic we have seen Sebastian’s abilities grow so much as a sledge hockey player. His knowledge of the game has grown leaps and bounds He enjoys playing and learning from his teammates. He is called the Wolverines Hype-Man, as he is always cheering them on and getting them fired up for games.  He never complains, always gives 100% and continually inspires others to do the same. Sebastian's accomplishments may be personal in practices but his dedication to improvement is something we should all strive for.

Teron Anderson - Football

Teron has had a passion for all sports all his life. Starting in soccer he quickly branched out to hockey and motocross. In 2021, Teron placed 4th in both the Peace Motocross Association MX2 and MX3 Intermediate championships. 2021 was also Teron’s rookie football season. His skill and determination were a vital part of the football team going all the way, winning the ASAA Provincial Tier IV Football, Provincial Champion title where he rushed for 189 yards out of 290 and was named MVP of the provincial game. He was also recognized as the offensive MVP by his team at the year-end banquet.

Kale is a valuable team player with great attitude who always puts his team first. In 2021 he tried out for the Arctic Winter Games hockey team. Kale plays hockey for the Valleyview U18 Ice Bears hockey team and was tied in first place for points in his hockey league.

Nikita Tsyruk - Judo

Nikita is an active Judo Alberta provincial team member, and an active member of the GP Wrestling Club.  In both sports, he is the first to step on the mat and the last to leave all while pushing himself beyond his limits. Over the past two years Nikita has overcome many hurdles. Nikita understands teamwork, dedication, goal setting, emotional control, focus, toughness, courage, anxiety, and concentration. Nikita has kept steadily moving forward during this pandemic, by setting alternative milestones and actively working to achieve them. Nikita has a goal of competing in the Judo Nationals in May.

Hailing from the small northern community of Sexsmith, the Sexsmith Sabres Football team are the 2021 ASAA Provincial Tier 4 Champions and set the record for the highest tier 4 Provincial final score at 51 points. They had most gained turn overs, most QB sacks and only 14 points scored against in provincial play. They finished the season with an impressive 10-2 record.

Amanda Frayn - Swimming

A Swim Canada Red Certified Official, Amanda is a thoughtful, informed, and well-organized leader among her peers. In her role as a referee, she recognizes the importance of capacity building among the officials under her supervision and works closely with the Club to ensure that training opportunities support the development of quality officiating, both in the present and long term. When she is not actively officiating, she lends her knowledge to many clubs in the form of clinics, workshops, and planning activities.  Amanda’s commitment for officiating extends to Peace River and Grande Cache – making difference in the sport of swimming in the Northwest.

Eric Anderson - Football

Eric has been officiating football for more than 20 years. He has a keen understanding of football rules. He helps organize clinics to train new officials and assists extensively with their training.  In his role as an official he has officiated all the way up to the provincial playoff level and the summer games.  Eric is masterful at applying the rules on the field and relates well with the players and coached on and off the field. Eric does an excellent job training new officials and is very patient and understanding when answering questions.
Keegan Johnson - Hockey

Keegan Johnson - Hockey

Keegan embodies the disciplined and professional spirit required of officials. He infuses professionalism and intensity into every aspect of his officiating. As a level 4 official he has officiated Junior ‘B’ Provincials, Junior ‘A’ showcase camps, and elite tournaments such as the MAC’s, Alberta Cup, and the Ivan Hlinka Cup. He loves instructing online courses and helping individuals start the same journey and has helped the world of officiating grow in the Peace Region for the past eight years.  Throughout shutdown, he continued to put in the work, so he was ready when the hockey world received the green light.  
Amanda Yu - Ringette

Amanda Yu - Ringette

With her efforts to build ringette back up in the region, there isn’t a person in the Peace Country Ringette association that Amanda Yu hasn't touched with her kindness. She volunteers for the love of the game. From meeting parents and athletes at sport stores around the city to ensure they are getting the proper gear to seeing that the club has ice time booked she puts in countless hours. She mentors the new coaches, parent volunteers and the kids themselves. Thanks to Amanda’s efforts we have been able to grow the club in the last few years, even through the pandemic.

Bryce has been part of Peace Wapiti Speed Skating Club for more than 20 years and tirelessly giving back to the speed skating community as a volunteer for more than 10 years. He has been a coach and mentor to athletes throughout Northwest AB, as well as equipment manager. In recent years, Bryce has been the driving force for envisioning the Aquatera Community Oval and bringing that vision into reality.  He is out there staking out the oval, measuring to ensure that Grande Prairie has a 400 m track.  He has maintained this rink, arranged for floods, built benches (and rebuilt several times due to damage).

Calvin Willet goes above and beyond and does it all for of the Grande Prairie Minor Baseball Association. His child has outgrown what GPMBA can offer, and Calvin still volunteers at least 20 hours a week all year long!  Absolutely anything that needs to be done, he makes sure it gets done or does it himself.  Whether it is presiding over GPMBA board meetings, mowing grass at the diamonds, coaching athletes from Rally cap to 18U Calvin makes sure all athletes get what they signed up for and more. GP Minor Ball Association is truly grateful for Calvin.

Jodianne and the peewee league have been a flagship throughout the province showing how to run a top-notch amateur organization that sustains growth over the last 14 years. Jodianne’ s strong contribution to policy/procedure development, and scheduling is unparalleled.  Despite the pandemic, Jodianne relentlessly implemented skill development camps at every opportunity to try and create opportunities for our young athletes in the community of Grande Prairie

Melody Sample - Wellness

As the Wellness Coordinator for the Town of Sexsmith, Melody is a driving force behind many of the great activity initiatives that have been put in place over the past few years.  She consistently goes above and beyond her job title, and work hours, to ensure that instructors, and program participants have whatever they need to succeed. Melody constantly strives to promote healthy, active living in the Town of Sexsmith and promotes activities for all ages.  She provides the programming for Pre-K, after school and seniors fitness classes.  In addition, she runs the Sexsmith Walk/Run Club.

From his lifetime commitment to hockey, whether as a coach, mentor, official, parent or instructor to his involvement with the Arctic Games Mike is a sport builder in the Valleyview Area.  He is a certified official and official clinic instructor, but the training doesn’t end in the classroom as he is also a mentor to the new officials.  Mike has always found some way to be involved and has never been afraid to wear more than 1 volunteer hat at a time. He has put countless volunteers hours in to ensure hockey in Valleyview continued to grow over the years.

Constantly going above and beyond, Carley Froehlick works around the clock to provide a coherent and workable football league for Sexsmith football. She ensures that football in the Sexsmith community runs smoothly and takes charge of everything from registration to fundraising to ordering the supplies needed.  Showing up to cheer on the players even when her own children are not on the field, Carley has an infectious smile and creates a welcoming atmosphere for anyone visiting the club.

Dylan Bressey - Disc Golf

In 2010 when Dylan Bressey moved to Grande Prairie, disc golf was relatively unheard of in the region.  Dylan has a "get things done" mentality and quickly got to work to change things for the better. By 2011 he started the Grande Prairie Disc Golf Club and shortly after he designed Grande Prairie's first course on Thrill Hill.  He has worked tirelessly and been instrumental in the creation of 3-disc golf courses in the region which are known as some of the best in Western Canada.  In addition, he runs clinics, tournaments and goes to schools and other venues to promote disc golf.

Morgan Banninga brought her passion for basketball with her when she became a teacher and returned to teach at St Mary Catholic School in Beaverlodge. Six years ago, when she began coaching, she had to recruit players just to make a small team B team. This year our school saw 60 male athletes try out: making a record three boys teams. She has built a formidable male basketball program from the ground up, developing the athletes into one of the strongest small school teams in the area. She gives her players the gift of passion for all sport and keeps high expectations for them while supporting them in their endeavours.

Theresa Thompson - Cross Country Skiing

Theresa plays an integral part in the operations of the Wapiti Nordic Ski club. Her hundreds of volunteer hours, whether on the executive board, helping with the cross-country ski team practices, leading youth or ladies mountain bike lessons, teaching adult ski lessons, organizing instructor training courses, taking coaching courses to improve her skills, or putting in long hours maintaining trails all contribute to the strength of the club. Her quiet hard work attitude, love of sport and the outdoors is easily seen by her constant energy and encouragement she gives to every person she meets.

Providing a unique and affordable physical activity option, Kitakaze Martial Arts Club has built a wonderful community for its past and current members with encouraging teachers who push the students to the best of their ability and celebrate each success with them.  Adaptable to a variety of abilities, the club welcomes all who want to try in an inclusive environment.  A community with a support system that extends beyond the gym.  With a local third-degree blackbelt instructor they are able to provide 1st & 2nd degree black belt testing regionally.  The club is a second home to many of its long-time athletes.
