Highlight Reel – June 2026

Basketball Deng Ngor won Team Canada‘s first ever Gold Medal at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup hosted by the International Basketball Federation. Deng was recognized as the Junior Male Athlete of the Year at the 2024 Northwestern Sport Excellence Awards (now known as the Grande Prairie Subaru Sport Excellence Awards).

Highlight Reel – May 2006

Swimming Oliver Dawson set two brand-new Canadian Records and wins three Silver Medals! Five Canadians, all from the Grande Prairie Piranhas Swim Club competed at the prestigious AP Race at the iconic London Aquatics Centre. It’s an elite event created by Olympic legend Adam Peaty, with 850 competitors from 40 nations with over 11,000 spectators.

Highlight Reel – April 2026

𝗪𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 Jaren Alaimoana was a double Silver Medalist at the Wrestling Canada Lutte Championships. Silver in the U19 Men’s Freestyle and in the U19 Men’s Greco-Roman wrestling.   Grande Prairie Wrestling Club teammate Hayden Cooke earned 4th  in the U19 Men’s Greco-Roman & 6th in the U19 Men’s Freestyle.

I believe Try-It-Day creates a hands-on experience for children and families to take a safe risk and try something new. I have enjoyed all of the days my children have attended because I see their confidence grow when they participate. It is an event that helps make the winter up here in Grande Prairie fun and gives families a chance to be together out in the community. It is an equal opportunity for families to experience activities that these amazing business owners continue to be community minded and create a culture of active daily living. I appreciate all of the organizers, businesses and sponsors that make these Try-It-Days possible. Thank you.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the Free Try It Day such a success! This was my daughter’s very first time, and it was a wonderful experience. A special shout-out to the karate instructors—their patience and energy made all the difference. You aren’t just creating opportunities for children to be active; you’re helping us make very special memories.
You help build kids confidence in their skills in whatever sport they choose as well as their life skills. Their confidence transmits in the school classroom and students love sharing their moves at school. I teach physical education class and students love sharing their talents with us daily. If your work was not here many students would not know how to access our amazing community recreation programs! My daughters loved being apart of the Try it days! They have found many new things that they can aspire to build upon in confidence and passion! Thank you again.
My son loved his first Try It Day experience! Heiho Dojo did a great job by making it fun for the kids by introducing them to jujitsu with games! There were lots of smiles and laughs from the kids, AND from the parents watching! The Centre for Creative Arts was a hit as well, and my son would have gladly stayed for the entire afternoon! Our community is very lucky to have such amazing organizations and sponsors to make this all possible! Thank you Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection for the opportunity, we look forward to the next Try It Day!

Try-It Day Parent
I was especially impressed with Shantera Dive services program held at the Beaverlodge pool. They had a group of young people fitted with equipment, given an orientation and given practical education in the water in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Following that, the participants were able to spend about 45 minutes using their new skill to explore the depths of the pool. It was so neat for me to watch as a parent, I have never seen my son so determined and attentive during any lesson. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and continues to request more dive time. This group did a fantastic job carrying for the diverse group of kids and giving the best and safest experience possible.

Thank you so much for your direction and assistance in locating fundraising groups and/or grants that would suit our needs. our group has a great time volunteering with the south Peace Horse Club in making the X Country event a success.  Please keep us in mind for any future fundraising events.
