Oliver Dawson was awarded Swimming Canada’s 2025 Junior Male Swimmer of the Year and Breakout Performer of the Year in the Olympic Program. His Dad, Alex Dawson was awarded 2025 Junior Coach of the Year. He is the Head Coach of the Grande Prairie Piranhas where Oliver trains.

The 16U Girls Lynx Volleyball Team earned Silver in the North 2 Blue Division at Volleyball Alberta’s Premier 1.
The 14U Girls Lynx Volleyball Team earned Silver in the North Division 3 at Volleyball Alberta’s Premier 2.
Autumn Munn of the Peace Wapiti Speed Skating Club competed at Speed Skating Canada’s Youth National Long Track Championship, qualifying for a second year in a row. Using the speed skater phrase ‘Go Fast Turn Left’ Autumn was also named to Speed Skating Alberta’s Youth Development Team for Short Track, Zone 8 Alberta Winter Games and Team Alberta North for the Arctic Winter Games.

Natalie Clarke of the Grande Prairie Piranhas, broke more records in Para Swimming. She outswam her personal bests in the Swim Alberta S6 Division at Grande Prairie’s home meet as well as in Edmonton. Natalie holds provincial records in the 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 200m Medley (long course). She’s also the record holder for 50m and 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 200m Medley (short course).

Ashley Bartelds of Gladiators Martial Arts Academy was featured in the Fight League Atlantic 23 in Moncton. She won her MMA bout.

Gymniks All Stars Cheerleading brought their enthusiasm to the mat. Team Invasion earned First Place and Judges’ Choice at the Imagine Cheer Championships. Code Teal won First Place and Team Sergeants, Recon and Intelligence achieved third place in their divisions. The Snipers, Caliber and Stealth competed at the Cheerific Cheer Challenge. At the True North Cheer and Dance event Invasion, Code Teal and Josee Indy captured Gold, Intelligence and Recon picked up Silver, Stealth and Caliber secured Bronze, Sergeants finished in 5th Place and Snipers were Excellent.

Team Alberta won the 2025 Football Canada Cup for the first time in 18 years. It was the 7th time in the history of Canada’s premier pre-university tackle football tournament since it was established in 1995. Four athletes represented the Peace Country. All four national champions have signed to play with the University of Alberta Golden Bears for the 2026 season.
Maddyn Morin – Linebacker from the St. Joseph Celtics – Grande Prairie. Maddyn was named the Defensive MVP of the Game in the national Semi-Final.
Cohen Boucher – Linebacker from Grande Prairie’s St. Joseph Celtics. Cohen was chosen as a 2025 National Championship Tournament All-Star as well as the Defensive MVP of the Game in the Semi-Final..
Hudson Palfy – Offensive Line from the Sexsmith Sabres. Hudson anchored Alberta’s front lines during national play.
Rigley Saville – Defensive Line from the Valleyview Cougars. Rigley provided strength along Alberta’s defensive front.
