Janine Walinski-Shillington earned a new personal best winning Gold overall in the Women’s 40-44 division at the 2026 Gymreapers Wodapalooza in Miami Beach, Florida. She also came home with 3 first place finishes, a second and 7th place finish in 5 individual events.
Liam Tinworth competed for Canada at the International Biathlon Union Cup in Norway and USA. He earned Bronze at the Canadian National Biathlon Championships in the 12.5km Mass Start.
Pedro Schindler from the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves was selected as the ACAC All-Conference Player in Men’s Futsal to wrap up the season. Teammate Evan Doerksen was named the ACAC All-Conference Keeper.
Kurt Balderston adds another curling title to his list of impressive accomplishments, skipping his team to win the Alberta Men’s Masters Championships. Grande Prairie hosts the Canadian National Masters Championships starting April 6.
At the Alberta Winter Games, Zone 8 earned 3 curling medals.
Gold for Team Lennox Maksymetz coached by Rob Maksymetz, Silver for Team Livi Maksymetz coached by Delia DeJong and Bronze for Team Felix Grenier.
At the Arctic Winter Games, Team Livi Maksymetz earned a Silver Ulu in the U18 Female division. Team Kale Myker earned Silver for the U18 Male division. In Mixed Doubles Kaelyn Jones earned a Gold Ulu with her teammate and Hyden Helmrich earned a Silver Ulu with his teammate.
Derian Boechler is the Speed Skating Alberta Provincial Champion in the Junior Male Division for Short Track. He earned the Alberta Provincial Circuit Championship Gold for a second year in row. At the Arctic Winter Games in the U19 Male Division, Derian won Bronze in the 777m, 1000m and 1500m.
Team Alberta North Speed Skaters at the Arctic Winter Games earned 13 Ulus in Whitehorse. The U15 Female Relay Team set another new record to win Gold (Claire Cook, Rylee Krawetz, June Lynch & Autumn Munn).
June Lynch also broke her own AWG record in the 400m to win Gold, as well as Silver in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m.
In the U15 Male division, Chase Krawetz won Bronze in the 1500m.
In the U19 Female division, Ola Gawlak won Gold in the 777m, Bronze in the 1000m and the Fair Play Pin.
Kehlan Duncan who won the 2026 Junior Male Athlete of the Year at the Grande Prairie Subaru Sport Awards, earned 5 Ulus in Whitehorse at the Arctic Winter Games. He won Gold in the 2.5km and 5km distances, Silver in the Short Distance Combined and Age Group Relay, and Bronze in the Gender Relay.
The Edmonton Eskimos welcomed 8 Peace Country football athletes to the EE Selects this season. On the Varsity Team were Kaeden Biette, AJ Pardy, Rigley Saville and Colby Wnuk. They won Gold in Saskatchewan for the Battle on the Prairies and Bronze in Mexico at the International Score Bowl Series. The EE Selects program is focused on developing elite football players from across Northern Alberta.
On the 14U EE Selects were Shayne Barlund, Wyatt Richards, Brewen Saville and Nathaniel Siebold. They earned Bronze at the Battle on the Prairies and Silver at the International Score Bowl Series.
Katelyn Siebert who won the 2026 Junior Female Athlete of the Year at the Grande Prairie Subaru Sport Awards was the top overall gymnast at the Western Trials in the Level 8 division for 14U athletes. Later this month she’ll be in Whitehorse for the Western Canadian Championships representing Team Alberta.
Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves set new records on the indoor track for the 4 x 200m Relay, with the Women surpassing an NWP record that has held for 11 years. Less than 2 weeks later their broke their own record at the Provincial Championships. Congratulations to Raelle Amboe, Carly Frerichs, Kelly Koop and Alana Paziuk.
The NWP Men’s 4 x 200m Relay record also has new names on it. Congratulations to Jesse Loiselle, Hastings Radbourne, Emmanuel Omachonu and Clinton Owusu.
