Basketball
Deng Ngor won Team Canada‘s first ever Gold Medal at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup hosted by the International Basketball Federation.
Deng was recognized as the Junior Male Athlete of the Year at the 2024 Northwestern Sport Excellence Awards (now known as the Grande Prairie Subaru Sport Excellence Awards).
He previous played school basketball in Grande Prairie, with Swan City Basketball as well as Team Alberta for the Arctic Winter Games.
Cheerleading
𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗯𝘃𝗿𝗲 and Team Canada won Silver at the 2026 FISU World University Championships Cheerleading. They competed in Sweden in the All Female Elite Division.
Fifteen countries were represented across 9 cheer divisions. Danica cheers with the University of Alberta Cheer Team and previously trained with the Gymniks All Stars Cheerleading program.
Baseball
Grande Prairie hosted the very first 16U Baseball Alberta Girls League Provincial Championships.
The Grande Prairie Terel Electric Reds finished 5th overall. Ally, Aubree, Cate, Devanie, Kadence, Kenzlie, Lucy, Mia, Olivia, Ryleigh, Sophia, Summer, Sydney & Teja. Coaches Sarah, Doug, Derek supported by Candace, Chris, Pat & Devlin.
The Grande Cache Cubs finished 4th overall. Adrianna, Afton, Alexa, Alli, Aurora, Brynley, Chessa, Claire, Emma, Olivia, Peydon, Reid & Suri. Coaches Chuck, Nicole & Racine.

Baseball
In the Montney Baseball League the Beaverlodge Royals won the 18U B Division and Valleyview Low Impact (Team Black) won the 13U B Division.
Umpire Curtis Fortin was presented the LMS Founders Award. It’s in recognition of outstanding character, commitment, sportsmanship, and respect for the game. This award honours an individual who exemplifies the values of the Montney League and makes a positive impact within the baseball community through leadership, integrity, and dedication.
MMA
In XFC XII Ian Stoby won the Middleweight Belt. It was his 4th Pro MMA win with another TKO and first main event in front of the hometown crowd at Evergreen Park.
Stoby is one of Canada’s top professional MMA athletes. He has trained at Gladiators MAA. On July 17, Gladiators and Mahood Jiujitsu & MMA are collaborating to offer a striking and grappling clinic featuring Ian Stoby.
In her fourth MMA bout, Ashley Bartelds earned a new title as the Women’s Flyweight Champion. Earlier this season she won her bout at Fight League Atlantic 23.
In kickboxing, Brendan Albrecht won his match at XFC XII. The event featured 14 bouts on the prelim card and 3 main-card events.
